Who said we are the universe experiencing itself

The only difference between the assertion in Cosmos and the traditionally metaphysical ones is a point of reference. One emphasizes humans as front and center to Totality, while the other, more traditionally metaphysical ones put Totality first, humans second.

But these nonetheless regard at their core a consciousness that is behind creation. Although many a scientist will abhor a model of the Universe that involves a necessary consciousness component, the idea just does not seem to want to go away. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic. We are a way for the universe to know itself.

There is "somebody" that is experiencing the universe or the universe is expressing itself through "somebody". It brings more wonder and astonishment to our curiosity knowing that the stars we see … The first time I heard this was from Bill Hicks in one of his stand ups.
