There are some good instants you can cast while you're running. But you only want one of them to stay in combat with you. Another thing about this quest is that when you "stun" the thing by depleting its health, you have to be in the alchemist's shop where the rift is.
So: Set a hotkey for the box and the scroll. Read the scroll in the shop, from 1 to 4 monsters will appear and attack. Pick your target and Fire Blast it. Start to strafe run around the outer ring by the green canal. Whenever Fire Blast cools down glance back enough to put it "in front of" you, and blast it again.
This will keep it in combat with you. After times, the others will give up the chase and leave combat and fade out. Reverse your running, head back to the shop. Finish it and then use the box. Don't forget to right click the box after the monster is trapped and collect your quest item. Rinse, repeat. If you're interested, this video is worth the watch. This is where I learned the skill of kiting. I've done some of these with my first mage. The Fire Blast trick is shown in the Round 2 starts at about vs.
Chronalis to lead the dragon all the way to Steamwheedle Port. I recommend the entire video. Comment by Allakhazam I tried a million things what worked in the end was standing on the bridge in the middle of the end if that makes sense.. Anything else and you are just wasting the "ectoplasmic containment system" and you have to try another "spirit". FYI, if you run out of charges, throw away the box and get another.
Have good get give, AgentLars. Comment by Allakhazam lol this quest was awesome - slightly frustrated at the beginning because i couldn't find them - was downstairs in the lab - but once i found them, i got them easily. These are the types of quests that should be WAY more abundant, rather then just "kill X amount of these", or "kill X amount of these and take their watevers, then bring them to me" Bliz should definitely do more intuitive and "complex" quests like this.
Comment by Allakhazam For any morons like me who just take quests without really reading them listen up. You need to take the quest then, get the scroll and box right behind the quest giver. I myself spent 30 mins looking around the Alch shop for a damn scroll.
I use the scroll once and got 4 mobs and died, then i read further and saw the post about using flamestike. So all I stood where everyone else said to stand and casted Flamestike near the metal wagon and got 1 to spawn at a time. Does anyone else have a problem with this quest? I have the chest and the scroll. I right click on the scroll and the Rifts appear.
Then I right click on the chest of coffers and I see a timer bar time down very fast less than a second.
During this I see a coffer it has red and green gems on it appear below the Rift and then a message says "A Rift is sucked into the coffer". However I do not get a full coffer in my inventory yes there is plenty of room. I have captured 6 of them now and I only have 4 charges left in the chest of coffers.
I have tried restarting the game. I also do not get any XP for subduing the Rifts. I have petitioned a GM for assistance, but so far no luck its been about a day now. Edited, Thu Mar 24 Comment by Allakhazam I did the quest today, and the only way i could get the coffers was to use frost nova as last hit.
Comment by Allakhazam Easier way to do this is to not use the scroll at all, then you can do it at lvl 16 like my girlfriend just has. The trick is to use flamestrike near the left of the metal wagon. That will aggro only one of the Manifestations. Then you can deal with it in your usual fashion. Eat and drink to full health then in about another 20 seconds it will respawn in the same place, rinse and repeat twice more. Comment by Allakhazam Just found another method, killed 3 of them with my 15 mage.
Here it is: I stood at the middle of the bridge not the stairs , at the edge of the mana rift. When the elementals trespass that imaginary line, they disappear So that's what you do: hit one of them, get almost off the bridge, so the others disappear, and just one will fight.
Kill him. Repeat three times. Comment by Allakhazam Same for me dude Comment by Allakhazam loc 54, Comment by Allakhazam I think this is broken since the latest patch. The 3 rift spawn are all aggro and at a lvl 16 quest it seems wrong that 3 lvl 17 mobs appear and massacre you. From earlier posts I think they are supposed to wait for you to start the fight, but it doesn't happen that way anymore.
Hopefully it's a bug and blizzard will fix it soon. Comment by Allakhazam It's still possible to do this, but not alone. My 16 mage did this with the help of my 17 priest - me on 2 computers which was not easy. Each encounter got one of the mobs to nothing, scooped them up and then ran. Priest died twice, but mage survived each encounter. Having another person play the preist could probably have done it with no deaths. Comment by Allakhazam Nice stratagies here. But for anyone who cannot get the strategy to work, simply use the cantation.
If you get more than one run accross the bridge. It may take way more tries than the stratagies here but eventually you will get only 1 to spawn. It's random Comment by Allakhazam OMG please guys how the heck did u summon those things? Icant get to see them realy invisible for me though please someone help.
Comment by Allakhazam appears totally fixed Comment by Allakhazam Coords 52 74 in UC. Use the scroll and 4 of them will pop. Use Frost Nova and either Blizzard or Arcane blast to beat them down, then use the box to trap them.
Kinda tough to solo even for a level 20 mage. Comment by Allakhazam Its Strange the quest is not bugged Even when i didnt do it right it still said that the Rift was sucked in Good Luck. Comment by Allakhazam This quest is simple once you find where to use the scroll, it is on the OUTER ruing of the Apo, not the inner, upstairs, not down in the alchemy lab and there are 2 guards and 3 UC NPCs in the "room", three of them spawn, not much difficulty killing them. The rift spawns attack fast, but given a little range, they can be easily dispatched.
As soon as the stunned symbol appears above their head, activate the containment coffer. Then wait It took me 11 charges to complete had to throw away the x10 charge box once. Comment by Allakhazam Tried this 6 times and died 6 times.
Used the scroll to make visible and aggrowed creatures attacking every time. So what am I doing wrong?
Comment by Allakhazam I have used the scroll all around the shop and no one has appeared. Is this quest messed up again or am I just doing something wrong? Comment by maxchum All previous advises about the bridge works on Classic. Pulled one with fireblast to the bridge, others run away and then I ran back, killed mob, clicked under him, to capture him into the trap, done.
Rinse and repeat. Comment by PrefeX This quest can be a pain to do solo, as it will usually spawn 4 mobs level that instantly aggro you, and that can kill you quickly unless you are in a group, use potions, or are a few levels over the intended quest level.
They are also neutral, so you won't get any assistance from any of the NPC's. You don't have that many ways of keeping them at a distance, or a good way to handle them with crowd control, so if they all catch up with you, you will have a hard time casting spells and surviving. Luckily there is also a very easy, but likely unintended way to complete the quest, as long as you have an AOE spell available. There are two ways to do this quest; the intended way, or the easy way. Before you run off, remember to pick up the two items you need for the next part.
These items are lootable objects located just next to the quest giver. Chest of Containment Coffers item Cantation of Manifestation item. When you use the cantation , all the mobs will instantly aggro on you. The cantation can be used from a good distance away, so like other users have suggested, it can be used on the edge of the bridge coordinates: 56,67 to reveal their positions from a safe distance.
They will still aggro, but running over the bridge will usually cause them to reset. They usually don't wander around, allowing you to know where they are after you have revealed and reset them. Read the tips, and then head over to the Apothecarium district.
Before you start, consider following the tip about revealing and resetting them, so you know roughly where the mobs are located. Unless it is to complete the previous step, DON'T use the cantation! Unless you know where they are, start at the bottom of the stairs the short, wide one located between the two stationed Undercity Guardian 's and the three NPC's from the last step , and slowly move around while casting Arcane Explosion or another AOE spell, until you manage to hit one of them.
After taking damage, it may take a second for them to fade in before you can see or target it. Until you damage it with your AOE spell, the mob is completely invisible, and cant be seen or targeted.
To conserve mana, I recommend using rank 1 versions of the spell, as the point is just to damage one, causing it to aggro you and turns visible. This allows you to both target and damage it, using your normal spells and rotation. Causing damage to the mob will not cause the other's to become visible, or aggro you. When you have aggro on one of the Rift Spawn 's, kill it, and then use your Chest of Containment Coffers near the stunned, untargetable mob.
This will place a Containment Coffer on the ground that appears to be "lootable", but in order to actually get any loot from it, you have to wait a few seconds for the animation to complete, and for the object to be replaced with the Filled Containment Coffer that you actually can loot.
Repeat this process untill you have all three containers. Comment by jfoobar Just finished without too much trouble. I followed the method posted back in by pwningally. I am only posting to add one little wrinkle. If you are more than halfway across the bridge, it will be stunned but you will not be able to cast the containment coffer chest on it.
If you pull one too far, just frost nova it and run it back before you "kill" it. Comment by Rhynchelma Report to Anastasia is a breadcrumb quest, not a prerequisite. It can not be obtained if this quest is in the log or turned-in. Investigate the Alchemist Shop. Have you captured the creatures? The creatures within these containment coffers will be studied by our finest minds, and the reason behind their presence in the Undercity will be determined.
If their appearance is caused by a rift in the natural flow of magic, then we must determine if the rift was random. If it was not random, but instead an attack by some magical force, then we must prepare for future, more serious disturbances. Strange, invisible creatures now wander the tavern, and I fear a mana rift has formed there. I want you to investigate the tavern and capture those creatures. Use the cantation of manifestation in the tavern to make the creatures visible, subdue them then use a containment coffer to capture them.
When you have enough, return to me with your filled coffers, your empty coffers and the cantation. They must be studied in order to determine the reason behind their arrival. Very well done! I will study these creatures and, with diligence and luck, determine how they slipped into our world. This quest causes problems for many young mages. This quest is slightly more complicated than most, and the first problems come from not reading the quest closely enough:.
The other problem many encounter is that they are overwhelmed and killed by the summoned mobs. This can be addressed by standing closer to the front door of the Blue Recluse when you read the Cantation, which usually results in fewer of the summoned mobs aggroing on you, enabling you to fight fewer at the same time.
