How many frets telecaster

Age: 75 Posts: 10, As mentioned already by a few fellers, the 22nd fret overhang just gets in the way when pulling the pickguard, which is precisely why I pulled off the 22nd fret on this AP SRO-W Str t neck, glued in a birch veneer strip, sanded off the overhang, and oiled'er up I have fret necks on a couple of Strats and 5 Teles.

I have never had to remove the neck to remove the pickguard. On a Strat, you pretty much have to remove the strings, but then it's just a matter of lifting from the rear and pulling back and up -- no big deal at all. I use the same approach with a Tele with the neck pickup mounted to the guard. I have one FSR Tele with the neck pickup mounted to the body, and I was able to remove the single ply black guard by pushing down on the neck pickup while lifting up and back on the guard -- all with the strings in place but slackened.

I don't know that I've ever used that extra fret, but it doesn't bother me to have it there either. Posts: 5, Heh, heh! Age: 75 Posts: I'll echo Kelsey. I have one song that does venture up onto the 22nd fret, adn the same song can use the 23rd fret - the neck pickup! Posts: 7, I always thought it was funny that Leo left off frets 22 and 23, and then made up for it by giving us that whacking big 24th fret.

Age: 66 Posts: Nobody has really answered the question, why 21 Frets? Gibson's have 22 frets. Ugh, I hate 22 frets. Posts: 23, I've never had a 22 fret Tele, but my Starts have 'em. It just makes more sense to me to go to D rather then C but 21 fretters do look better. The high end of an electric guitar wasn't given much thought back in the '40's. Few players went that high. How many frets did most jazz boxes at the time have?

Also has one of the nicest necks I've ever played on any Strat. My Jeff Beck sig Strat has Mind you We have to remember the Fender solid body concept originated in the late '40s and early '50s and the FMIC is still selling that concept.

In any case having 21 frets in would have been a feature given that 19 frets was a common number of frets on most guitars. I get that for the first 20, but what about the twenty first? Oh, wait. I see. Because it looks cool. It is my contention that strats should have 24 frets, but that's me. I know people will contest that the neck pickup will suffer but personally, I believe using the correct pickup would eliminate this.

Why do Fender Strats and Telecasters have 21 frets? Start new topic. Recommended Posts. Posted June 3, But the Stratocaster has a noticeably larger headstock, whether the original iteration or the bulky one that was used from Some guitarists claim that the larger Strat headstock gives the guitar more sustain and tone, but that debate has raged for years.

Telecaster and Stratocaster bodies are mostly constructed from alder — a lightweight, closed-pore wood with a resonant, balanced tone that imparts excellent sustain and sharp attack. Ash, mahogany and other tonewoods have also been used. As for the body silhouettes, both are instantly recognizable. The Tele has a single cutaway and no body contours. In addition to its sleek contours that make it eternally comfortable to play, the Strat has another cutout on the upper horn for better access to the upper notes.

Alder: What's the Diff? Stratocaster Electronics vs. Telecaster Electronics. The Stratocaster and Telecaster generally have similar electronics. They each have a master volume control, but where the Tele only has one tone control, the Strat has dedicated tone knobs for the middle and bridge pickups.

The switching, however, is another story. The Telecaster typically has two single-coil pickups, with the bridge pickup being wider and longer than its Strat counterpart.
